Home Stay in SydneyHost families share their homes with International students or guests. When you become a Home Stay host you agree to have an international student or visitor in your home.

As Host, you are expected to provide accommodation and conversation that will assist the international guest or visitor to adjust to Australia’s culture.

Becoming a Host Family

Many families have found this an enjoyable way to meet interesting young people and learn more about different cultures. It also provides additional income for the household.

Our priority at Global Experience is to ensure the Host Families are willing to offer a warm, home environment and have a genuine interest in the student.

To assist us in identifying the right Host Families referrals are welcomed from existing Host Families.

The screening process to become a Host Family is thorough and includes:

  • A home visit from a Home Stay Co-ordinator.
  • Completing “Working with Children Check” for every single member of the family over 18 years of age and living at home (attachment 6.4 and 6.5 must be completed, signed and returned, together with 100 points proof of identity at the time the Host Co-ordinator conducts the initial interview at your home).
  • A signed agreement between Global Experience and the Host Family to ensure all parties understand their responsibilities.

100 points of personal identification needs to be provided with the signed application form. Please have photocopies ready of any of the following to make up the 100 points:

  • 70 points: Passport, Birth certificate, Citizenship certificate
  • 40 points: Australian Driver's licence, Tertiary education identification card
  • 25 points: Medicare, Local council rate notices, International Driver's licence

*Please download the PDF BELOW for a completed list of proof of identity.

Once the Host Family is registered with Global Experience there is ongoing support available as and when required. As one of our Host Families you are encouraged to join our monthly newsletter which will talk about different cultures and give updates on what’s happening in Home Stay.

We also have bi-monthly “Host Morning Teas” at our offices where we can discuss your Home Stay experience and share what’s happening in the world of Home Stay.

Testimonials

"My host family took me and another student to the school on the first day. Later we went to Olympic Park to watch a movie together. It was very nice. Thank you for your help, Global Experience."
